Ronaldinho

ronaldinho
Chalk up some of the confusion over whether Ronaldinho is playing in the 2010 World Cup to a fantastic Nike commercial. Nike's "Football: Write the Future" ad campaign features the Brazilian star who plays for Italian powerhouse club AC Milan performing his latest new-and-amazing move, which, of course, is copied by everyone, including basketball great Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers. But in reality, Ronaldinho just wasn't good enough (or perhaps was too good) to make the final 23-man squad managed by former Brazil star Dunga. He decided to leave Ronaldinho at home for the cup (despite Nike's grandest marketing).

The crucial call: Rafa Benitez’s decision to start with Fernando Torres paid a handsome dividend

Fernando Torres: Pain is no barrier when it comes to Manchester United

Fernando Torres has admitted that he played through the pain barrier to fire Liverpool to a crucial 2-0 victory over Manchester United.
A groin injury limited Torres to just two light training sessions last week and he was only told on the team coach to Anfield yesterday that he would start the game.

The gamble by manager Rafael Benitez paid off handsomely, though, as Torres struck the opener and David Ngog added a late second to end a run of four straight defeats.

Qualificatin Euro 2012

Euro 2012 Qualification England  vs  Bulgaria

by Jesse Chula on September 2, 2010

The Three Lions resume meaningful international competition this Friday v Bulgaria at Wembley stadium as weary and untrusting eyes focus on equal parts Fabio Capello’s management and various members of the new look England squad. Bulgaria is the opponent and three points towards Euro 2012 qualification is the goal.

A little over two months to the day when England were eliminated by Germany in the 2010 World Cup and with Fabio Capello still at the helm, England will take to the now impressive Wembley pitch somewhat ravaged yet somewhat optimistic as new blood hopes to emerge on the international stage.
Injury has claimed John Terry, Frank Lampard, Peter Crouch, and still Rio Ferdinand at the heart of the England defense.

Sell Liverpool

Tom Hicks, the Texas private-equity and sports investor, said a dysfunctional management structure and favorable market led to Friday's announcement that he and partner George Gillett will sell the English soccer club Liverpool.

The sale, which will be handled by Barclays Capital, would bring to an end a three-year tenure for Messrs. Hicks and Gillett at the helm of one of the world's most storied sports franchises, which has been dogged by financial pressures, a strained business partnership and a fractious relationship with the club's fans.

Euro 2012

Choice of Euro 2012 cities faces delay

The Ukrainian capital Kiev and the city of Donetsk are expected to be named as 2012 European championship venues but UEFA's executive committee could delay naming the other Ukrainian host cities.Sources close to the committee have told Reuters that all four of the cities put forward by co-hosts Poland to stage matches in three years' time should be named as expected: Warsaw, Poznan, Wroclaw and Gdansk.

However, doubts remain about the viability of the Ukrainian cities of Lviv and Dnipropetrovsk to stage games. Kharkiv, on the reserve list of nominated venues, could yet be chosen ahead of them, although Odessa, also on the reserve list, is unlikely to be nominated.
